 •   Previously Featured  •••
The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding • Arnold Schwarzenegger hasn't competed as a bodybuilder since he won the Mr. Olympia title in 1980, but he remains the sport's No. 1 icon. He hosts an annual bodybuilding contest in Columbus, Ohio, and allows a column to be ghost-written under his name in a muscle magazine. Today's bodybuilders may have bigger muscles than Arnold ever did, but everyone inside and outside the iron game gives him credit for exponentially broadening the popularity of physique training. Updated edition from the 1985 first edition. In paperback!

BooksForFitness: Always at the top of the list! This book was great when it was written in 1985 and if nothing else, everyone has built their career from Arnold's success, including other authors on bodybuilding. You can find books that imitate this one, the original.

Getting Stronger : Weight Training for Men and Women by Bill Pearl • For athletes who want to develop strength for a specific sport, and for beginning bodybuilders, this new edition is really three books in one, covering weight training for general conditioning, bodybuilding, and specific weight training for 21 different sports. While reinforcing the principles of the first book, the revised edition taps into the flood of new information on scientific sports training, nutrition for bodybuilders, and workout equipment. Special attention is given to women and those recovering from injuries. Completely revised and updated, this edition contains over 2,000 illustrations covering 350 lifts and over 100 illustrated one-page fitness programs targeted to specific needs. “A must for anyone serious about fitness.” — Newsday

BooksForFitness: One of the highlights of the Arnold Classic Sunday morning seminar several years ago was watching Bill Pearl do arm curls. Don't worry about his age. He must be following his own advice and getting stronger. No one outlifted him that day. Not the AC champ or Arnold.

The Ultimate Lean Routine : 12-Week Cross Training & Fat Loss Program • Greg Isaacs, corporate fitness director of the Warner Bros. Studios, has packed this book with the total package about how to make your body shed the fat it so ably and willingly has stored over the years. It promises up to a 30 percent body-fat loss, 50 percent increase in aerobic fitness and 40 percent increase in muscular strength in just 12 weeks. But even if you don't get those startling results, you can still use this book as a starting point for a successful, sustainable fitness program.

BooksForFitness: That's a lot of percentages and you know what happens with percentages in the stock market. Well, you've got no control over the stock market. You can control your diet and exercise routine. Which one's going to pay you the better dividend?
 •   SUPPLEMENTS :: The Ultimate List  •••
Earl Mindell's Supplement BibleThe boom in nutritional supplements has been bewildering to most health-conscious people. One camp, made up mostly of traditional scientists and nutritionists, says that supplements are unnecessary, that you can get all the nutrients you need from a well-balanced diet. Then there's the group that says a normal diet can't supply all the super-duper stuff that researchers of varying degrees of credibility discover on a regular basis. Which set is right? Earl Mindell, for one, is solidly in the latter, recommending virtually everything you'll find on the shelves of your neighborhood nutrition store. He answers questions you might have about supplements you've heard of but don't understand, and he explains what all the excitement (if any) is about. From DHEA to cat's claw, bovine tracheal cartilage to chromium picolinate, he endorses all.

BooksForFitness: If Earl says it's good for you, it is. Of course, Earl says everything is good for you. Of course, he's right. Only take it all in moderation. Exercise, diet and sleep are still thh best way to stay strong and lean.

Daniels' Running FormulaCalled the "World's Greatest Coach" by "Runner's World", Daniels combines his coaching insights with his Olympic background to provide runners with proven training programs and racing strategies for the 1,500-meter run to the marathon.

BooksForFitness: It's probably one of those aerobics things which is a rarity the way we train. But, our running friends say this is the best way toextend your training. After all, it is part of that cross training routine that you've always wanted to become more of your regimen.
 •   NUTRITION :: The Ultimate List  •••
Nutrition for Serious AthletesThe goal of this book is to make the science of sports nutrition and exercise physiology accessible to athletes and their coaches. The latest information is presented in a way that allows both athletes and coaches to quickly adapt the ideas to existing training and eating strategies. Ultimately, the goal is to assure that nutritional practices will enhance the benefits athletes derive from training and to make certain they enter competitions ready to win.

BooksForFitness: Nutrition is serious so get serious about the most difficult aspect of your training. This book speaks with authority.

Strength Training Past 50 • Strength training is an equal-opportunity exercise system; studies show that anyone who tries it can benefit. Muscle loss is inevitable through the years if you're sedentary. But no matter how old you are when you start, strength training has nearly immediate benefits: more muscle mass, more strength, less fat. This book gives older exercisers all the information they need to get started, including advice on testing for strength and how to pick a qualified personal trainer.

BooksForFitness: There's no real limit to reaching your body's potential and it doesn't matter how old you are. The physiology may be different and the techniques may be a little different than your younger days. Age is no excuse.
